CAIO of One
[ 00 — CAIO of One ]

You got the title, not the team. Coaches build the office with you.

We build the inventory, the use policy and the board report with you, then hand you the controls.

What you get Book a call

[ 01 — The building ]

Every team already runs its own AI.

Chat tools. Copilots. Agents. Each one chosen by someone else.

[ 02 — The title ]

Then someone handed you the title.

Chief AI Officer. Often on top of the job you already had.

[ 03 — The inbox ]

Policy. Risk. Vendors. The board. All at once.

Every AI question in the company now finds its way to you.

[ 04 — Ownership ]

One owner.

[ 05 — You ]

You are the AI office.

No department yet. Decide what runs, who watches it, and what stops it.

[ 06 — In view ]

One leader. Every department in view.

An inventory, a use policy, and a named owner for every agent that acts.

[ 07 — The method ]

The rulebook and the machinery, built side by side.

Teach

Policy writing, use-case scoring, vendor review and board reporting, learned on the AI work already running in your company.

Build

The tool inventory, the review path, the logs and the board dashboard, built with you and handed over in working order.

[ 08 — Signals ]

[ 09 — Frameworks ]

One map across every framework.

NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, the EU AI Act. Learn what each one asks.

[ 10 — Next ]

Write rules that outlast the next model.

Name the use, the data and the owner. Let the model underneath change.

[ Questions ]

What does a Chief AI Officer do at a mid-size company?
Sets the rules for AI use, decides where AI goes first, manages risk and vendors, and reports results to the CEO and board. Without staff, one person carries all of it.
Is a Chief AI Officer required?
Not for private companies. US federal agencies must retain or designate one under OMB memo M-25-21 (April 2025), and may give the role to an existing official such as a CIO or CTO. This is general information, not legal advice.
Which AI governance frameworks are standard?
Most programs start from NIST’s AI Risk Management Framework 1.0 (January 2023) with its Generative AI Profile (NIST AI 600-1, July 2024), and ISO/IEC 42001:2023 for AI management systems. We teach how they fit together; certification decisions stay with you and your auditors.
Do we need an AI acceptable-use policy?
If your staff use AI tools, a written policy is the usual first step. At minimum it names approved tools, data that must never be entered, when a person reviews output, and who to ask. Have counsel review it before it goes out.
What should a new CAIO do in the first 90 days?
A common sequence: list the AI tools and agents already in use, publish a short use policy, score the first few use cases, and agree a monthly report with the CEO. We work through that sequence with you.
What does a Consult block cost?
Each hour is $400, and a block is at least 5 hours, so a booking starts at $2,000. A block is a good fit for drafting the inventory, the use policy or a board report.
What is the price of Build, and what do we get?
Build is $15,000 a month. Each month, pick up to 5 business processes for our build-with-you coaches to work on. They build your AI systems with you and teach your team to run them. If you ever leave, the systems stay with you. Agents work only on your systems, and a shared 24/7 on-call rotation answers, with response times in writing.
Is this legal, security or HR advice?
No. We teach governance practice and build systems with you. Legal, security, employment and tax questions go to your own qualified advisers, and we make no promise of compliance.
How is this different from Business of One?
CAIO of One is for the person governing AI inside an organization: policy, priorities, vendors and reporting. Business of One is for owners building their own AI-first business. Same company, same method, different job.
Who runs CAIO of One?
Utlyze, a builder and operator of custom AI systems, which has worked with businesses on AI since ChatGPT’s public release in November 2022. The work follows the Of One method, published at of1.ai.

Built on the Of One method: ask the right questions, map what you find, make the best move. of1.ai ↗
